MORE than 2,000 plastic and metal car parts, remnants of the MSC Napoli disaster, have been cleared from Pounds Pool beach, Beer.
Some 2,114 plastic and 191 metal car parts were collected as part of the Marine Conservation Society Beachwatch project.
In all 18 rubbish bags were filled and loaded on to a local fishing boat and brought back to the main beach for disposal.
An intrepid team of five members of the Fine Foundation Centre, Beer, together with five people from as far afield as Harlow, logged each piece of rubbish for the MCS Beachwatch survey.
Pat Farrell of Beer Village Heritage said: "The good news is that approximately 90 percent of the rubbish on the beach was cleared and there were no sewage-related objects found.
"Rubbish will continue to surface from under the shingle and be washed in on the tide."
It is hoped to repeat the exercise next year.
