New chief fire officer for Devon and Somerset

LEE Howell, 39, has today formally taken charge of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service as its Chief Fire Officer.

LEE Howell, 39, has today formally taken charge of Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service as its Chief Fire Officer.

Mr Howell said: "I am delighted to be here in Devon and Somerset and intend to build on the success achieved to date and make it an excellent organisation both for the public and the staff who work within it. My focus will be on delivering exceptional service to the public and improving performance across the board.

"My immediate priority will be to spend time listening to our staff, the public and partners to gain a better understanding as to what we are already good at and what we might do to improve further. I have started these sessions today. I firmly believe that by working together, we can, and will, make a difference to public safety in Devon and Somerset."

Cllr Bernard Hughes, Chairman of the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Authority, said: "All the members of the Fire Authority are eager to formally start working with the new Chief and support his efforts to further improve community safety across the two counties.
