TOILET: The official opening of the new toilet at Branscombe church will be done by the Bishop of Crediton on May 5. Bob Evens will give a service of dedication at St Winifred’s in the new facility, the first at the church since its construction in the Middle Ages. More than £20,000 was raised over the past few years on the project, which will make sure parishioners never get caught short again.

LENT LUNCH: On Saturday, March 3, St Winifred’s Church in Branscombe will be holding a simple lunch to try and raise money for charity. The annual event will be in the village hall and starts at noon.

AGM: The organisers of Beer Regatta are holding their AGM to discuss plans for this year’s event in the Mariners Hall on Fore Street on Thursday, February 9, at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome.

PRAYER: An event for the ‘Women’s World Day of Prayer’ is being held at Beer Congregational Church on Fore Street in the village. The service, which is to pray for Malaysia, takes place on Friday, March 2 at 2pm in the church, with guest speaker Anne Stuckey. QUIZ NIGHT: Beer Primary School’s PTFA are holding a quiz night to raise money for the school on Thursday, February 9 in the lounge bar at the Dolphin Hotel. Teams must be made up of four to six players; entry is £2 per person. Entrants should meet at the pub at 7.30pm for an 8pm start, with bottles as prizes and a raffle.

LIVE MUSIC: Branscombe Cricket Club is hosting an evening of food and music in the village hall on Saturday, February 11, from 7pm until late. There will be live music with ‘Bustop Café, a home-made hot and cold buffet and a late-night bar, as well as the award ceremony for the cricket club’s 2011 season. Tickets for the event cost £10 and are available from the two pubs in Branscombe, the post office or contact 01297 680322 or 680169.

WI: The women of Branscombe WI will not be able to accept a romantic dinner date on Valentine’s Day as they have a meeting on Tuesday, February 14. But husbands, partners and friends are also invited to come along and hear Glenn Everett talk about his time with Concorde, with video and illustrations. The talk starts at 7.30pm in the village hall, entry is £3.50 for members and non-members, including refreshments.

GARDENS: The successful open garden programme in Branscombe is looking for willing residents to open their gates to visitors and raise money for charity. This year will be the seventh annual programme, and in 2011 the gardens across Devon raised £20,000 for Hospiscare.
