A NEW book, essential to all donkey owners, is launched today (Monday) by the Sidmouth-based Donkey Sanctuary and Kenilworth Press, a specialist equestrian publisher based in Shropshire. It has been written by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen MBE, who founded the charity 40 years ago.

The Complete Book of The Donkey gives invaluable advice on the care and welfare of donkeys. Sections include guidance on buying and caring for donkeys, their diet, pasture management, breeding and showing and many other sections which the 'donkey loving' reader will find of interest.

Dr Svendsen, who has written over 35 books for adults and children, says: "I began to compile this book so everyone could learn all about donkeys, their history, needs and uses! It follows on from the more clinical book, The Professional Handbook of the Donkey, which was written solely for the veterinary profession, and published last autumn."

The Complete Book of The Donkey can be purchased from The Donkey Sanctuary for 22.50 including postage and packaging from its mail order catalogue and online at: www.thedonkeysanctuary.org.uk. It is also stocked in The Donkey Sanctuary's visitors' centre, good book shops and is available at www.kenilworthpress.co.uk
