AMENDED plans for the erection of a detached home at 137 Temple Street, Sidmouth, should still be rejected, say town planners.Discussing an application by Mr R Cox, Sidmouth Town Council's planning committee voted last Wednesday against the construction of a new home at the site, which is by the entrance to Cemetery Lodge. It will recommend the development control committee at East Devon District Council refuses the plan because, despite alterations to the roof, it would be larger than the original proposed, have an unacceptable impact on the street scene and cause highways problems. There would be loss of amenity to Cemetery Lodge and other nearby properties, and it would be out of keeping with the area.Councillor Graham Liverton said: "It would also put pressure on the attended entrance to the cemetery that would increase problems there."Devon County Council's highways officers also recommending refusal. An officer there said it would result in the loss of parking facilities and encourage on-road parking, which would interfere with the flow of traffic.
