There was a happy ending for travellerJohn Treagood when his new home was delivered just days after horse, Misty, arrived. John's much-loved horse Gildor died a fortnight ago, leaving the traveller stranded; sparking an online fund to be set up to help pay for a new horse.
Traveller John Treagood took a first look around his new home on Friday morning after the wagon arrived from North Wales.
John, 79, touched the hearts of hundreds a fortnight ago when his beloved horse, Gildor, died leaving the traveller stranded on a roundabout in Exeter.
An internet fund raised thousands of pounds to pay for a new horse for John and when donations continued to pour in a new wagon was also bought.
John’s horse, Misty, arrived on Tuesday and John’s new home, a baker’s van, was delivered on Friday morning.
The traveller said he hopes to be back on the road within a week, once his old wagon, trailer and rubbish had been collected
Former lecturer John, who walked away from conventional life 40 years ago, said he was ‘really pleased’ with his new home and horse.
Looking around his new home, John said: “I won’t have to do any work to it. “There’s a place for me to sleep and the dogs can fit underneath my bed.”
The white baker’s wagon was funded with donations from the Go Fund Me online page set up by photographer, Richard Horsfield, from Cornwall.
Inside the wagon has seating, which turns into a bed, cupboard space, a sink, and a pull-out table. It also has secure cupboards to store tools.
