Steve Ryrie and wife, Sarah, have been bowled over by the enthusiastic reception they have received following their takeover of traditional footwear shop, White & Son Shoes located on Fore Street in Sidmouth.
The couple have been trading in Sidmouth for three weeks and have given their thanks for the warm welcome they have received from Sidmouth residents and visitors.
The couple said: “The past eighteen months have been challenging for everyone and we look forward to being part of the Sidmouth community as we emerge from coronavirus restrictions. We are so excited to be at the helm of White & Son Shoes and continuing to meet the footwear needs of those living in, and visiting, beautiful Sidmouth.”
Steve brings a wealth of footwear experience to the venture having worked in the industry for over 25 years. He began his retail career in the footwear department at Lilywhites, London before joining ECCO Shoes where, not only did he meet wife, Sarah, but he also built on his retail experience by moving into the wholesale sector. Latterly, he set up Red Squirrel Agencies selling a range of leading footwear brands to UK retailers. The purchase of White & Son Shoes is the culmination of a lifetime’s ambition to have his own independent retail store.
Steve and Sarah Ryrie have two children, Tilly, 13, and Joshua, 11, and live near Wells in Somerset. Sarah is currently training as a secondary school English teacher. Prior to having their children, she was UK Trade Marketing Manager at ECCO Shoes UK Ltd. The whole family will be involved in the running of White & Son Shoes and will be regular faces on the shop floor, especially during school holiday periods.
Steve and Sarah, along with existing shop manager Anne, and staff: Mandy, Liz, and new-comer Karen, will continue to sell a range of the world’s best footwear brands in the shop. Current brands include: Skechers, Rieker, Josef Seibel, Van Dal, Ara, DB, Hush Puppies, FitFlop and Dudes.
