NOW authorised to make decisions on planning applications relating to trees, Sidmouth Town Council's planning committee last week voted to approve the following:

Crown thinning a Sitka spruce, prune overhang on a Holm oak by 1.5 metres and thinning a Monterey cypress for Mrs H Spalding of Alexandria Road;

Fell a Leyland cypress at Cranford, Sidmouth, for Mr Brayne;

Fell a pine tree at Regency Gate, Sidmouth, for Mr P Roberts and crown reduce and remove epicormic growth from a red oak at Kyneton Lodge, Alexandria Road.

The council has been informed that works to a cherry tree at Manor Park, Broadway, Sidmouth, and a beech at Ailsa Craig, Salcombe Hill, Sidmouth, are exempt from the usual tree protection legislation and do not need consent.

The owners are required to replace the trees in the first planting season after they have been removed.
