The ‘Jurassic Superjock’ Stuart ‘Huggy’ Hughes has announced he will begin presenting the breakfast show during FolkWeek between 7am and 9am.

The radio station recently received news from Ofcom that it would be granted a temporary FM licence for a fortnight to help with its coverage of the festival.

Stuart is no stranger to presenting after hosting the breakfast show on Exmouth Air, formerly Bay FM, before he was struck down with life-threatening pneumonia.

Now fully recovered, the presenter says he is ‘raring to go’ and has recently installed a radio studio in his home so he will be able to link up to the radio station for future evening shows.

Stuart, of Temple Street, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Bob and the SVR team and hopefully listeners will enjoy my brand of presenting, which is known as Wall to Wall.

“The Jurassic Coast superjock is raring to go and having lost three-and-a-half stone in weight over the last 11 weeks, I’m both physically and mentally fit; there’s nothing like radio to express oneself.”

During FolkWeek, Stuart will be reviewing the daily papers and keeping listeners up to speed with what’s going on at the festival.

John Braithwaite, FolkWeek director, will be in the studio today (Friday) to discuss this year’s event.

Bob Weeks, radio station owner, said: “Everyone we have presenting has their own unique style and that’s the nice thing about community radio, anyone can have a go.

“Stuart has an amazing style, I wish people could watch him while he’s working, he’s truly brilliant and it comes across on the radio.

“It’s great to have someone with his experience and a true professional, he has many years’ experience at Exmouth Air.”

Bob said a lot of preparation had gone into the FM launch and he hopes to attract new listeners from the nearly 80,000 people expected to attend the festival.

Bob said: “I’m extremely nervous. Everybody has put their arms in the air and said I will help.”

The licence will run for two weeks from August 1 to August 14 on 87.9FM.
