FLORAL favourite Fred the peacock will be missing from Blackmore Gardens this summer – as he’ll be replaced by a crown to mark the Diamond Jubilee.

Sidmouth in Bloom chairman Lynette Talbot said Fred “has gone on holiday”.

She is one of the volunteers who has helped bed in the 4,000 plants that make up the colourful peacock display.

A £600 floral crown will take Fred’s place in recognition of the Queen’s 60 years on the throne.

Councillor Stuart Hughes will pay for the feature – and its £700 planting costs – from his county council locality budget.

“It’s going to look stunning,” said Councillor Hughes.
