EFFORTS to secure funding to revamp the Ham Play Area have so far proved fruitless.

Sidmouth Town Council in its capacity as trustee of the Ham is looking at ways to acquire financial support for the play area's renovation.

At a meeting on Monday it was announced that East Devon District Council's Section 106 funding has been ruled out for the time being and an application for the Playbuilder grant scheme was unsuccessful.

Councillors agreed to encourage parents, who originally asked the town council for the revamp to join the fight.

"Some of the young mothers might themselves get involved-they carry a lot more weight," said Councillor Jeff Turner.
