Sidmouth Rotary Club seeks nominations for the town’s next Citizen of the Year award

NOMINATIONS have already started coming in for Sidmouth’s Citizen of the Year 2010.

Once again the Sidmouth Herald has joined forces with Sidmouth Rotary Club to search for someone to take the title.

Last year, Marie and Barry Martin, who have raised some 50,000 for charity during the past 40 years, were made joint Citizens of the Year, thanks to your nominations, which must be made on special forms printed in the Sidmouth Herald.

Rotarian Arthur Passey, co-ordinator of the competition, said the person who could receive the title might be “someone who is dedicated to working in a private capacity or for charity.”

Past title holders include the town’s coffee queen, Betty Easey, Graham Vincent, chairman of Sidmouth Hospital Comforts Fund, Bill Lankester, OBE, for his work with Sidmouth Living With Cancer group and David John Baldick, who with his wife Mavis, work tirelessly supporting local and national charities.

Arthur said: “We have had people from all walks of life in the past and people should nominate whoever they think is a worthy candidate.

“It is someone whose work deserves recognition.”

The first Citizen of the Year title was given in 1985 and in the past 25 years it has given the Rotary Club of Sidmouth the chance to recognise the town’s unsung heroes.

Anyone who has made a significant contribution to life around Sidmouth is eligible to be nominated.

Readers have until Friday, February 4, 2011, to get in their nominations using the form from the Herald. It will be printed each week until Friday, January 28. Photocopied forms will not be accepted.

• Completed forms should be sent in envelopes marked ‘Citizen of the Year 2010’ to Diana Bowerman, Sidmouth Herald, Archant South West, Fair Oak Close, Exeter Airport Business Park, Clyst Honiton, Exeter EX5 2UL.
