The Sid Valley Memory Café has received another four-figure boost in its appeal to bring a dementia nurse to the Sid Valley.

Sidford WI donated £1,175 to the Admiral Nurse Campaign after members unanimously voted to support the £100,000 project.

Throughout the year, the WI has held cream teas, coffee mornings, monthly raffles and ‘sing-outs’, where the ladies entertained residents at care homes.

Members also collected funds by filling Smarties tubes with 20pence pieces.

Barbara Ellis, treasurer for Sidford WI, said: “The support was unanimous. I initially thought I would like to achieve £1,000. I never told anyone and I never dreamed that we would. We are a big WI. We have about 90 members. We do not have to beg them for money.

“They are very supportive.”

The group presented a cheque to Linda Archard, a trustee of the Sid Valley Memory Café, at its coffee morning on Tuesday.

Mrs Ellis added: “With the WI, because we are a charity, we are not allowed to fundraise for other charities.

“However, we can fundraise for the likes of the Admiral Nurse as it’s something which will benefit our members or their families in some way during their lifetime.

“The Admiral Nurse is going to make a huge difference.”
