A beaver population downstream from Ottery can be re-released into the wild, following a decision from Natural England today.
A licence has been issued to Devon Wildlife Trust, granting permission for the managed release of the beavers, on a five year trial basis.
The licence is subject to a number of conditions, including confirmation that the beavers are of Eurasian origin and are free of the Echinococcus multilocularis parasite.
