TEACHERS and children of Beer Primary School were celebrating last week after they were given an outstanding report by Ofsted.

Of 33 judgements on aspects of school life at the primary, the Ofsted inspectors found 26 were outstanding and the remaining seven were good.

The report states: "The school very successfully uses its Christian ethos to underpin a wider understanding of the world that leads to excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of the pupils."

Paul Sadler, lead inspector, said: "This success is achieved through consistently excellent teaching. Lessons are exciting and pupils respond with excellent behaviour and great enthusiasm.

"The excellent curriculum provides them with a wide range of opportunities to participate in additional activities such as sport and drama, and to learn Spanish. They love school."

Delighted headteacher, Martin O'Mahony, said: "The staff, governors, parents and children are thrilled with the outcome of the inspection and feel it recognises the hard work, community spirit and pupil endeavour that makes Beer Primary such a great place to learn.

"As a school we cannot underestimate the impact that our parents have on school life. Whether it be home learning or school activities the teachers and children feel supported and inspired.

"Our children are keen to learn and are motivated by the challenges of their learning targets. We will use this excellent report as a benchmark for improvement - not forgetting that children are at the heart of every thing we do.
