Old and young meet for cream tea
PUBLISHED: 06:40 12 October 2010
OLDER members of the Sidmouth community have sampled what The Arches youth cafe has to offer.
Ten residents of Abbeyfield Court, Station Road, enjoyed a cream tea at the seafront venue on Sunday afternoon. It was served by young people who are members of The Arches.
The cafe was opened this summer in the old shelters on The Esplanade as a meeting place for 13 - 19 years olds living in the Sid Valley. It is backed by Sidmouth Youth Trust, Sidmouth Town Council, local businesses, volunteer helpers and Rotary and Lions Club members.
Youth Trust vice-chairman Chris Rignall said: “It was a good opportunity to bring young and older members of the community together.”
During the winter The Arches will be open from 6pm - 8.30pm on Fridays and 2pm-5pm on Saturdays and during half-term week. Opening times and any special events and activities will be advertised on posters in the cafe’s windows and at Sidmouth College, Kings School and Manstone Youth Centre.
The youth trust is looking for a part-time volunteer youth leader, preferably aged 20-35, who could provide support and leadership at The Arches. Call Di Fuller on 01395 576669 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
