Treat for students in Ottery St Mary
The memory of the London 2012 Olympics will live on at The King’s School after pupils received a commemorative piece of athletics track from the games.
Five-time Olympian Jo Pavey returned to the school that kick-started her love of running to present the item on Wednesday. Jo said: “I dreamed of making the Olympics. Follow your dreams - it doesn’t have to be running, it could be a different sport, music, drama - but always believe you can do it. If it wasn’t for this school, I wouldn’t have known that I loved running. It’s a special place.”
Jo said of the London 2012 Olympics: “It was a home games and an amazing experience. Being on the start line, the roars of the crowd were unbelievable.”
Headteacher Rob Gammon described Jo as ‘inspirational’.
Year nine pupil Millie Guy said: “I would love to pursue the career she has had. I think it’s amazing that she has been to five Olympics and done so well.”
