The Otter Vale Art Society is inviting non-members to its next meeting on Friday, September 7, when a visiting artist will be demonstrating his techniques.

Rod Ashman, who judged this year’s OVAS Summer Exhibition, aims in his work to “express a feeling of place” rather than to represent the scene before him fully. He has developed a style which often appears abstract, capturing the scene with a collection of reactive, “in the moment” brushstrokes. He is particularly inspired by landscapes and the sea, and regularly visits Cornwall to paint its striking scenery.

Rod, who trained as a painter/ceramicist and taught art for many years, will be showing the Society what he describes as “the abstract, indulgent use of paint”.

While the Society welcomes non-members, particularly those with an interest in joining, there is a small admission charge of £2 for attending the meeting. It takes place in the usual venue, the Ottery Institute, at 7pm.
