An RAF Wing Commander from Ottery raised more than �2,000 for charity at the London marathon.

Richard Yates, 39, who grew up near Ottery St Mary, crossed the finishing line in just under five hours making �2,200 for the Leonard Cheshire Disability charity.

He said: “It was an outstanding day and a great opportunity to raise money for a worthwhile charity.”

Victoria Wray, in charge of events at the disability charity, said: “We are very proud of Richard who was one of 100 runners who helped Leonard Cheshire Disability to raise well over �150,000. This is a fantastic achievement and it couldn’t have been done without his support.”
