A NEW non-profit community business in Ottery St Mary is searching for a voluntary director to help develop innovative arts activities.

Community and Environmental Arts hopes to initiate projects that will serve educational, environmental and community development purposes by addressing issues such as disability awareness and discrimination.

In June the company created a play with students from The King's School which focussed on pupil's responses to climate change.

Organiser Clive Essame said: "Our idea is to offer high quality arts activities at a cost that mean people who may not otherwise access the arts can do so. To do this we need to apply for funding, sponsorship and develop commercial activities. We need someone experienced in arts administration to lend us a hand in moving forward."

Mr Essame is hoping to bring his play Impesie, which highlighting different views on disability, to the area next year after it proved a hit at the South African Arts Festival in July.

Anybody interested in joining the company can contact Clive Essame on (01404) 814217.
