An Ottery artist is preparing for an exciting exhibition that will capture the beauty of the Jurassic Coast.

Colin Bentley will display landscapes and portraits of places along the coastline at Kennaway House in Sidmouth from October 21 to 27.

He has worked in collaboration with the Jurassic Coast Trust as part of three-year project to host a trio of three major exhibitions between 2017 and 2019 focusing on different sections of the 95-mile coastline.

Proceeds from the paintings will be donated to the trust towards its work protecting and promoting the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Next month’s exhibition will feature paintings of iconic coastal landscapes between Exmouth and Beer, including Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, and Ladram Bay.

The artist has worked with volunteers ahead of the exhibition and will also display portraits of ambassadors who have helped him.

Colin said: “I’m amazed how much this coastline has affected my paintings.

“When I paint rocks, they now seem more solid.

“The geology has crept into the paintings without me noticing.”

The Jurassic Coast is England’s only natural World Heritage Site and is 95 miles long, running from Orcombe Point in Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks near Swanage, in Dorset.

Guy Kerr, from the Jurassic Coast Trust, said; “Colin has integrated brilliantly into our group of ambassadors, spending time with them out on the coast, getting to know each part of the landscape and incorporating their knowledge of the rocks into his artwork.

“Each of our ambassadors has their own particular connection to the coast, and it is this distinctiveness that we want to capture in our project.

“As we approach our first exhibition in Sidmouth, we’re all excited to see the final products of Colin’s hard work.

“The money raised from sales of the artwork will contribute significantly towards looking after our World Heritage Site for all to enjoy.”
