A CARAVAN dweller, who set up home on Ottery's outskirts more than a month ago, looks set to stay put- despite a bid from town officials to have him moved on.

Concerned Ottery town councillors have written to Devon County Council (DCC) over the caravan's appearance at Salton Corner after receiving a string of complaints over the appearance of the caravan and two dogs which are "chained up" on the land.

However, a DCC spokesman told the Herald this week that while the authority was "still monitoring the situation", action over the situation on it's land would only be taken "if there becomes reason to do so."

Last month police said one of the dogs, a Rottweiler, broke free, chasing a cyclist near Strawberry Lane, before going on to the town's cricket pitch. Officers found the dog's owner who duly put the dog on a chain.

Concerns were raised soon after when a second caravan arrived at the site, only to leave shortly after.

The caravan's owner, named as Jake Lee, has been unavailable for comment when the Herald has attempted to contact him.
