CARNIVAL organisers are hopeful the family which has brought its funfair to the town for a century will be back next year, despite being badly affected by last month's weather chaos.
Michael Devey told The Herald last month how he had to carry his grandchildren through chest-high waters after their caravan site near Barrack Road was left in tatters by water and hail.
He added: "I've never experienced anything in my life like that. I wouldn't wish it on anybody, to see my grandchildren crying and shivering in the wet."
The family's funfair was also left under water and for the first time, East Devon District Council allowed it to be move to the Land of Canaan Car Park.
Carnival secretary Steve Pearcy said: "I'm sure they will be back, they have supported us for many, many years. Ottery is the culmination of their season and they have been incredibly supportive to carry on, get everything checked over and up and running.
"We feel very much for those who are still struggling with the consequences of the flooding and we have helped out where we can.
