Increased parking charges have harmed Ottery traders, data suggests – but the town could be spared the latest price hikes.
Rises in tariffs have been proposed for many East Devon car parks, but papers, which will go before the district council's cabinet on October 2, suggest Ottery is already suffering because of previous changes.
Council officers have recommended the town's £2-a-day flat winter rate should begin 'with immediate effect rather than waiting until November'.
In the agenda papers, Andrew Ennis, EDDC service lead officer, writes: "Our car park transaction data for June and July does suggest a reduction in activity (in Ottery) although the situation is significantly more complex with other towns where tariffs had not changed seeing similar reductions.
"However, I am proposing that we introduce our usual winter price offer here with immediate effect."
The proposals will be discussed by East Devon District Council's cabinet on Wednesday, October 4.
