Ottery collision man’s injuries ‘serious’ -police
A MAN trapped under a police vehicle following a collision in Ottery on Saturday is believed to have suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to police.
A force spokesperson said special constables were responding to an incident of disorder in the town at around 11.35pm when the vehicle was involved in a “low speed” collision with a member of the public in the Gold Street and Brook Street area.
It is believed witnesses filmed the incident on their mobile phones.
Firefighters raced to the scene to help free the casualty.
A police spokesperson said: “At around 11.35pm on Saturday, October 29, a police vehicle crewed by special constables, responding to an incident of disorder in Ottery St Mary , was involved in a low speed collision with a member of the public in the Gold Street and Brook Street area.

“The 61-year-old male pedestrian became trapped under the police vehicle and officers, off-duty fire staff and members of the public worked to try and free the male.
“Fire, ambulance and specialist police traffic units attended the scene, and the male casualty was released and conveyed to hospital with what is believed to be serious but non-life threatening or life changing injuries.

“An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is currently being undertaken by the force serious collisions investigation unit.
“The incident occurred on the Ottery St Mary carnival night and it is believed that a number of witnesses may have captured the incident on mobile phones.”
