TOWN planners will be put in the unusual situation of discussing a major planning application that they have submitted. On Monday, at the Ottery Town Council planning meeting, an application to convert the Marist Convent at 8 Broad Street will be discussed. The council wants to move from their present offices in Silver Street to somewhere more accessible.Currently councillors and members of the public have to ascend a series of steps to get to the meetings, which makes access problematic for some.It is also felt that the current offices are not central enough in the town - and it is hoped that new premises in Broad Street may be more suitable. There has previously been speculation that a library or the tourist information centre could also be relocated there. However, councillors may be asked not to submit comments to district planners on Monday, because of a conflict of interest.
