Reported crime was up in Ottery last month - with assaults making up almost a third of the total.

Police recorded 25 crimes for the Ocotber, compared to nine for the same period last year. Total reported crime so far this year stands at 156 incidents.

Updating the town council, PCSO Maria Clapp said eight assaults had been reported along with a breach of a restraining order, the theft of a mobile phone and an incident of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Enquiries are ongoing after the recycling centre, near The Bowd, was targeted on twice. On one occasion, two white males were reported to have climbed over the gate and stolen items. In a separate incident, a man was caught on CCTV taking a ???? battery.

A vehicle was stolen from a driveway in the early hours of the morning. Officers found the car after it drove past a static police unit.

A burglary in West Hill saw thieves enter a property by throwing a large stone through the kitchen window. Jewellery was among their haul.

Items were stolen from the front seat of a vehicle in East Hill after thieves smashed a window.

PCSO Clapp reported there was also one case of failure to provide specimen, one report of threatening behaviour and one of depositing waste without an environmental permit in the Fenny Bridges area.
