The cubs in Ottery got a helping hand from local firemen to complete their Community Challenge badge.
The staff at Ottery St Mary Fire Station showed the group from Ottery Cub Scouts how the different aspects of the work of the fire service, including learning about hazards in the home and demonstrations of the dangers they face.
Assistant Cub Leader Ben Rowland said: “The guys at Ottery Fire station were brilliant. They organised a demonstration of freeing a casualty from a road traffic accident by cutting the roof off the car, the Cubs watched in silence with open mouths”
The evening ended with the Cubs being allowed to use the hoses. Ben added: “Only one Cub Scout went home soaking wet thanks to the efforts of his younger brother, which he claimed was an accident!”
