A CAMPAIGN group which fought against Ottery dog-control orders, "supports in principle" the compromise reached over the Winters Lane Playing Field.
Last week the Herald reported how East Devon District Council's (EDDC) chiefs agreed to ban dogs from the site but allocate them a small, fenced off strip of it and restrict the animals to leads in the Land of Canaan.
Ottery Dogs spokeswoman Mel Turner said group members hope the area, earmarked for the Oak Close end of the field, will provide "an area of green space to meet the needs of all the community."
The group, however, want EDDC to re-think over its decision over the land of Canaan and consider slapping irresponsible owners with a "dog ASBOs" instead.
Mrs Turner said: "We feel this order should be amended to a 'dogs on lead by direction order' to avoid punishing the majority of responsible dog owners.
"The long term plans of Ottery Dogs not only include the continued support of the people of the town and EDDC in the monitoring of these areas, but continuation of our regular poop scoops to ensure these green spaces are kept free from excrement.
