A day of special events to commemorate the death of an Exeter City player is being put on at Ottery St Mary Football Club on Easter Sunday.

Adam Stansfield died of cancer last August, and the Washbrook mMadows club has decided to dedicate its Easter event to the 31 year-old, who began his career at Cullompton Rangers.

Starting at noon there will be two matches between Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle Supporters’ Clubs, the second at 3pm, followed by live bands performing in the clubhouse which will be open until 11pm. Players from Adam’s old team Exeter City are hoped to be present at the event and will be available for shirt signing and photographs.

The money raised will go the Adam Stansfield Foundation, set up to promote community participation in football for children under 16 by providing grants and facilities in the area.

Tickets are 7.50 for a day pass to watch both matches with food and entertainment, and free entrance for children accompanied with an adult (4 otherwise), or 4 for adults just to watch the matches and 5 just for the evening’s entertainment and all ticket holders will be entitled to a free pitch to camp overnight.

Matt Cantell, the event co-ordinator for Ottery St Mary Football Club, said: “I hope the atmosphere will be fantastic to honour Adam Stansfield in an appropriate way.”
