FIRE: After reports of a fire involving a fuse box in a barn at a farm in Taleford fire crews from Ottery St Mary and Middlemoor, Exeter were mobilised. They arrived around 10am on Thursday, May 10, and confirmed a small fire in an electrical fuse board had spread to the first floor of the barn, damaging part of the flooring. The fire service requested Western Power to isolate the electrics before putting out the fire with small tools and a thermal image camera.

TREES: Ottery Town Council did not support plans to carry out works on trees at a property in West Hill. Councillors at Monday’s planning meeting said there was insufficient information and no report from an arboriculturist into proposals to fell two beech trees and cut back an oak tree and a further beech at Warren Park in the village.

JUBILEE CLEAN: Ottery’s big tidy-up takes place this Sunday, from 11am at the Land of Canaan. Organisers want as many people as possible to take part in the ‘Spring Clean for the Queen’ and spruce up the town for the following weekend’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Cleaning equipment is being provided by East Devon District Council and by Keep Britain Tidy, and refreshments are being provided by Sainsbury’s.
