A PAIR of young Ottery fundraisers are hoping for a double delight this weekend by achieving carnival success on home turf.

Sisters Jess and Rosa Batten-Stevens, of Butts Road, have raised £1,350 to help disadvantaged Peruvian families, nearly trebling last year's total, while bagging six first prizes on this year's East Devon carnival circuit.

Jess, 11, and Rosa, 8 have been wowing judges with their Little Chief, Big Totum costumes in the walking pairs category and are hopeful of adding to their tally of awards at the Ottery Carnival on Saturday (November 1).

The duo spent the summer holidays drumming up support from local businesses for the family charity, which helps improve living conditions, provide medical attention and find employment for Peruvian families.

The girls' mum, Mary, whose sister works for the charity in Peru, said: "A couple more firsts wouldn't go amiss. The girls really enjoy the carnivals and are also getting something out of it. They realise there is a big world out there and people who need help and this is a great way to do it because they are having fun at the same time.
