Ottery graffiti vandals target church

VANDALS went on a graffiti spree in Ottery over the weekend, marring the town s Catholic Church with a foul-mouthed tirade against the police.

VANDALS went on a graffiti spree in Ottery over the weekend, marring the town's Catholic Church with a foul-mouthed tirade against the police.

Yobs left at least seven signs or buildings covered by black felt-tip on Saturday, leaving business owners to clean up the mess when they came back to work on Monday.

All the graffiti sported the leters OTE.

Brown's Motorcycles, the town's Esso garage and fire station also fell victim to the potty-mouthed spate, as did Hind Street signs advertising Ottery's dental practice and Alan Todd and Sons.

Ottery PCSO Maria Clapp described the graffiti, the first incident of its kind in her four years serving the town, as "late-night stupidity."

PCSO Clapp said on Monday she would attempt to clean up the remaining graffiti but warned offenders they are committing criminal damage, and, if caught could be made to clean it off themselves.
