Ottery man admits causing suffering to donkeys

Magistrates were told the five donkeys were found with lice and overgrown hooves at Alfington Farm on April 19, 2017.

A group a donkeys in Ottery were left in such horrendous conditions two had to be put down, a court heard.

Raymond William Griggs, 69, admitted to three counts of causing unnecessary suffering to the animals at Exeter Magistrates’ Court today (Monday).

The bench was told that the five donkeys were found with lice and overgrown hooves at Alfington Farm on April 19, 2017.

Griggs of Southern Hay, Longdogs Lane, pleaded guilty to all the offences and said he’d been having money issues and couldn’t afford to keep the animals. He admitted that he should have given them up sooner.
