The Mayor said 2012 was an eventful year for Ottery but said the biggest challenge facing the town in the next 12 months is the number of new houses to be built.
Glyn Dobson said in his annual report the Diamond Jubilee celebrations were ‘undoubtedly the highlight’ of last year, and said he is proud of the restoration of the monument to Queen Victoria’s 60 years on the throne which was part of it.
But he said an influx of houses in Ottery will ‘have an effect on all residents’ in 2013.
With approval for around 150 houses between Butts Road and land behind the Old Convent, there are another 165 awaiting approval at land in Barrack Road, and the regeneration of the Factory could bring a further 100 dwellings to the town.
However Councillor Dobson highlights the new developments will provide Ottery with a number of affordable homes, which he said would be ‘very welcome as there is a shortage of this type of house’.
