A FAMILY-run Ottery mechanics business hopes to expand and bring a tyre service back to the town.

Riverside Motors owner Dave Clarke wants to create a state-of the art MOT bay at the shut ATS depot on the Finnimore Industrial Estate, which he bought after it closed last October.

He hopes district council planning chiefs will give a planning application, to extend the premises and upgrade the building, the go-ahead.

“The plan is that we move Riverside Motors as it is at the moment into a purpose built building,” Mr Clarke told the Herald: “It will make life a lot easier for us as we’ll get more room. Providing plans go through, we will keep our existing site open and could run that as a possible stand-alone tyre depot. We’ll be bringing tyres back into Ottery.”

He hopes the proposed new premises will help revitalise the Finnimore estate.

Ottery town councillors will give their opinion on plans on Monday. East Devon District Council will decide the fate of blueprints in the coming months.
