AN OTTERY pensioner was left to scrub human excrement off her doorstep at the weekend after a late-night yob used her home as a toilet.

The Windrush Rise householder woke on Saturday morning to find someone had defecated by her front door overnight, leaving behind a trail of soiled toilet paper.

The resident, who does not want to be named, nearly stepped into the faeces before facing the indignity of having to clean it up.

She told the Herald :"How I wasn't sick I don't know. I've got a bad knee and a bad heart, having to scrub my doorstep on my is a hard job for me.

"It's just awful, I cleaned it up thinking it was dogs mess, but dogs don't wipe their bums. There was soiled toilet paper near it and an entire roll in the bushes.

"I find it unbelievable. I've done nothing to anybody. Whoever did this must have meant it, who walks around with a toilet role on them?"

A police spokesman said there was no reason to think the resident had been specifically targeted and while there are currently no suspects the culprit could face court.

He added: "It (the faeces) is being treated as human. We are investigating the incident and if anyone would like to contact us with information we would welcome it.

"People doing this sort of thing could be prosecuted for it and end up in court. The offence would be classed as anti-social behaviour, public disorder or even criminal damage. It can also be deemed abusive or threatening behaviour under section five of the public order act."

Ottery neighbourhood beat manager Phil Thomas said the offence was an isolated incident and labelled it as "totally unacceptable". He said night patrol officers will be made aware of the area as they step up their coverage of the town.
