Talented young wordsmiths impressed judges with tales of the bonfire season in a writing competition.

Tickety-Boo asked pupils at Ottery St Mary Primary School to submit stories about Bonfire Night, Tar Barrels or Hallowe’en to win a free session at its play kingdom.

Owner Stuart Phillips and head chef Dave Goldthorpe praised the high standard of entries after selecting their winners from 63 submissions.

Dave, who visited the school to give out certificates and prizes to the children who took part, said: “It was a very difficult competition to judge - we weren’t expecting quite so many entries or such an amazingly high standard.

The winners received a free hot chocolate, snack and free play in the play kingdom. Runners-up received an assortment of prizes including hot drinks and homemade cookies.
