OTTERY residents have been urged to see a play which tackles the problem of scams, distraction burglaries and bogus callers this week.

Trickster, a production by Solomon Touring Theatre, will take place in The Institute at 2.15pm on Friday as part of the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership's bid to clamp down on the problem.

Gerry Moore, Community Safety Officer, said: "Quite often victims of such scams and bogus callers are elderly people. The Scambuster event that the theatre company is putting on will come across in such a way as not to frighten people but deliver a very serious message they will remember."

PC Phil Thomas said the play is much-needed in the town as its subject is a reoccurring theme in Ottery.

Admission is free and free light refreshments will also be provided. Further help and advice will also be available from the police, South West Water and Devon Trading Standards.
