Ottery’s inaugural hill climb has been called a ‘fantastic’ success after attracting cyclists from across the country to take part.
Organisers decided to host the event after watching the world’s top cyclists ride through the town during last year’s Tour of Britain competition.
Co-ordinator Josefina Gori said 85 cyclists from across the country arrived on Sunday to tackle Chineway Hill and compete for cash prizes, provided by local businesses.
Ed Laverack was named King and Maryka Sennema, Queen, after being the first man and woman to complete the course.
Following the climb, which was organised by 1st Chard Wheelers, crowds moved to the Land of Canaan for an afternoon of entertainment and cycling.
During the day, visitors watch demonstrations by the Exeter Aces speedway club and the Urbanflow street dancing group.
There was also a duck race and opportunities to have pictures with the event’s mascot, Daisy the climbing Jack Russell.
Josefina said: “There were lots of youngsters doing the Go Ride and that was what we wanted to get the younger ones interested in riding.
She thanked the committee for their hard work organising the day and businesses for their sponsorship and participation in the Big Breakfast.
“It was fantastic, we were really please with the results.” Added Josefina.
