OTTERY'S new community facility, The Old Convent, will be open for business this week.

The town council will take up residence in the Broad Street building on Wednesday after spending months of hard work giving the premises a makeover.

Mayor Glyn Dobson said councillors are looking forward to welcoming townsfolk into their new home, adding: "After a long time we are pleased to be able to offer an enhanced facility for the town."

More than 200 people turned out to get a sneak peak of the building, which boasts disabled access and a large meeting room available for public hire, earlier this month. The council will make the move from its long-term Silver Street home and it is hoped Ottery's neighbourhood policing team will follow in the summer.
