OTTERY St Mary Scouts are hoping to shine a light on their origins after celebrating the discovery of a 90 year old photograph of their troop earlier last month.

Proud scouts gathered at the group's Winter's Lane Headquarters on August 12 to mark the anniversary of the 1918 image, the earliest known picture of the troop, and created a unique then-and-now moment by posing for their own photo.

The Scout Movement celebrated its centenary last year and the 80 strong Ottery group, which includes Cubs, Beavers and an Explorers section as well as 36 scouts, is keen to discover its roots.

Assistant scout leader Bruce Harvey said; "The group must have been formed before 1918 because some of the badges scouts are wearing would have taken a while to gain. We want to hear from anyone who can help us.

It would be nice to know if we were amongst the first groups to be formed and that we have continued for all this time."

Anyone with information can contact Mr Harvey on (01404) 812548.
