Ottery Scouts have backed a new campaign trying to help the town become plastic free.

Rosanna Dickason, Archie Cole, Amelia Serino from the Escot Scout Troop attended a recent town council meeting to talk about the impact of plastic, rubbish and pollution.

They asked for councillors’ support for the Plastic Free Ottery campaign, which is trying to encourage plastic free initiatives and events.

They group of youngsters said: “Plastic is used for everything, our biggest concern is how people get rid of it. As you can clearly gauge plastics are becoming an increasingly dangerous threat to wildlife, ourselves and future generations. To stop the destruction of the planet there needs to be change, and here is how.”

During the meeting, the rest of the troop went out litter picking around the town collecting bags of rubbish left in roadsides, hedgerows and park areas, The work will go towards their environmental conservation badge.
