OTTERY is set for a spectacular marching band treat this month, when a double UK champion drum corps performs in the town.

The Cheshire-based Poynton Commodores, reigning open class Drum Corps UK and British Youth Bands Association title holders, are set to give residents an exclusive sneak peak of their colourful, musical exploits at a special day of

family fun at the town's football club on August 26.

The event will raise money for the British Heart Foundation and Ottery's Tourist Information Centre.

The 35-strong Commodores, ranked seventh in Europe last year, features big drum, brass and percussion sections as well as dancers.

Members plan to holiday in the region and use Ottery as the location of a special rehearsal performance before they set off on a quest to secure more competitive glory.

The event will take place from 6.30pm.

Organisers are on the lookout for raffle prize donations for the event. Anybody willing to help can contact the Ottery TIC on (01404) 813964.
