GENEROUS Ottery residents have helped the town's Committee of Action Medical Research raise more than £5000 for the vital study of diseases and disabilities.
The group welcomed donations of bric-a-brac, small pieces of furniture, pictures and children's toys throughout last month when it opened a shop in Mill Street, which closed on October 4.
Shirley Morris, Action Medical Research Treasurer of the Ottery Committee, said: "We would like to thank the people of Ottery who were so generous for both donating goods as well as finding bargains to buy, and for supporting the shop generally and making our time there very happy. We are also very grateful to all the volunteers who gave up their time to run the shop and to the landlord who kindly allowed us to use the shop again. We also want to thank Recycling in Ottery (RIO) for their valuable support."
Action Medical Research raises money for research nationwide and has been involved in several significant breakthroughs in recent years.
Mrs Morris added: "The charity is returning to its routes to concentrate on research into diseases and conditions that affect children and the money raised in the shop will go towards this worth while effort.
