Ottery St Mary footbridge plans ""well adrift

MEMBERS of East Devon District Council described further delays to the long-awaited Ottery footbridge and cycle route as a ridiculous bureaucratic exercise at an executive board meeting on Wednesday.

MEMBERS of East Devon District Council described further delays to the long-awaited Ottery footbridge and cycle route as a "ridiculous bureaucratic exercise" at an executive board meeting on Wednesday.

Councillors criticised demands that a footpath between the river Otter and Thorne Park Estate must be raised above flood level, which have increases projected costs to £1.1 million and left the current financing scheme "well adrift".

District council leader Sara Randall Johnson said: "The Environment Agency is

looking for a Rolls Royce when all we need is a Mini..... They (Devon County

Council) should put their hands in their pockets and deliver for the people of Ottery.
