STUDENTS and teachers at The King's School simultaneously stopped what they were doing to enjoy a spot of reading last Friday, October 10.
To celebrate 2008 as the National Year of Reading all staff at the school, from the headteacher to the caretaker, downed pens and tools and picked up books to mark Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) Day.
The day, part of the Devon Gets Reading initiative, will saw pupils stop for two 15 minute reading spells in the morning and afternoon.
School librarian Debra Hanson said: "We need to keep reading at the forefront of education. There is such an obvious correlation between reading and academic achievement, not to mention the sheer pleasure of losing yourself in a good book.
