Proposals to stop holding council meetings in Tipton St John will be sent out for public discussion following a debate last week.

Ottery Town Council host a meeting once a year at the village hall but ward member Councillor Lyn Harding expressed her thoughts that it was a waste of council funds due to the lack of public attendance.

At a meeting last week, Cllr Roger Giles, said it was the council’s obligation to go to the village, adding: “If we have an obligation to carry on going to hold our meetings in Tipton once a year and if we don’t then the people of Tipton are entitled to feel very aggrieved by us ignoring them.”

Tipton ward member Cllr Geoff Pratt proposed that he would put something in the Tipton Times magazine asking residents for their thoughts.

He said: “I think the people must have some say in this then you can make your decision and you still have time because its going to be next year.”
