AFTER defeat in a "fiercely contested" bowls match last month, Ottery St Mary town councillors have their sights set on revenge tonight when they take on the town's Bowling Club at an informal archery competition at The King's School on Monday.

Proceedings will start at around 6pm on the school's playing fields with both teams aiming to get the closest to a wooden steak.

Bowling club chairman Michael Potter said: "It's all pure fun and we decided archery would be better than something like bungee jumping. Its been suggested that the mayor and myself stand in the middle of the field with apples on our heads but I'm not too sure about that, although it may actually be the safest place to be."

Mr Potter added that local residents are welcome to come and observe the fun.
