A SUCCESFULL 'lights-out' trial at an Ottery St Mary car park has proved a bright idea- and is set to be utilised in Sidmouth.

A bid to turn lights off at the Land of Canaan from 11pm to 6am has led to East Devon District Council (EDDC) this week employing the measure in the rest of its car parks in the region.

It is hoped the scheme to turn the lights off in the 'sleeping hours' of the night, which began on Wednesday, will save cash and reduce EDDC's carbon footprint.
